THREAT TO CUMMINGS LAND
ADJACENT TO QUAIL RUN

The undeveloped Cummings Property land adjacent to Douglas Green and Vine Brook Way is in jeopardy! The land consists of 218 acres of idle land that borders Quail Run and extends into Burlington. The land was given in trust to the City of Boston in 1930, apparently to keep it from local taxation. The trust specified that the land be kept "forever open as a public pleasure ground." Boston is moving towards selling it for development to help pay for the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

Back on 18 August 2005 Boston Globe printed an article in the Business section titled City may tap 30’s gift to aid Greenway. The "30’s gift" owned by Boston is the Cummings Trust land.
On 6 January, the Woburn Daily Times Chronicle printed the article Planners endorse creation of 3 lots by City of Boston
On 12 February 2006, the Sunday Boston Globe printed the article Where there's a will, a land tug reporting actions taken by both Woburn to protect the trust and the City of Boston to break the trust.
